Eric Sutherland, DPT, SCS, COMT, CSCS, DN, ART
A native of Nova Scotia, Dr. Sutherland received his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology in 1998 from Acadia University, Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy in 2001 from Dalhousie University and a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree in 2007 from Des Moines University. He completed his board- certification in Sports Physical Therapy in 2016 from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties.
Dr. Sutherland has received several other post-graduate certifications including Strength and Conditioning Specialist (2001), Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (2005), Kinesio Taping Practitioner (2010), Full Body Certified in Active Release Techniques (2010), Dry Needling (2011), Emergency Medical Responder (2015), Graston Technique Provider (2017) and Medical 2 Professional with Titleist Performance Institute (2020).
He began practicing in a private outpatient clinic in Port Alberni, BC in 2001. This was followed by a move to Valdosta, GA in 2002 where he worked in a private outpatient clinic for five years. He and his wife, Michelle, a pediatric physical therapist, opened their own private practice in 2007 and has enjoyed treating a wide variety of orthopedic and sports injuries.
Dr. Sutherland has been involved in providing sports medical coverage for various teams and events throughout his career. This includes the 1999 and 2011 Canada Winter Games and Arizona (2014), Florida (2009 & 2010), and Lake Placid, NY (2010) Ironman Triathlon competitions. As well, Dr. Sutherland has enjoyed being a part of the sports medicine program for the Valdosta High School football team since 2004.
In 2019, Dr. Sutherland completed a rotation at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. After completing this rotation, he joined the sports medicine team for USA Gymnastics and has provided sports therapy coverage at the 2019, 2021-2023 US Gymnastics National Championships, 2021 US Olympic Trials, and 2023 Junior Men's National Training Camp.
